A small company that measures apps

MustGate Labs builds Gatepost. We are a team of engineers who shipped consumer apps for years and wanted a monitoring tool we would have been happy to add to our own.

Why Gatepost exists

Before Gatepost, most of us worked on apps with millions of installs, and the honest answer to "is the app fast?" was "the reviews say it isn't". The tools we tried either added megabytes to the binary, needed a dedicated engineer to keep running, or reported averages that hid the mid-range Android phones where the problems actually were.

We started MustGate Labs in 2021 as a mobile consultancy and built the first version of the SDK for our own clients. It became the product in 2023. Today Gatepost runs inside apps for retail, delivery, banking, transport and media, on every kind of device and network we did not anticipate.

How we work

The SDK is a guest

It runs in someone else's app. Every byte, millisecond and milliampere it uses has to be justified, and it must never be the reason an app crashes.

Percentiles, not averages

An average hides the users having a bad time. Everything in the console is a percentile per screen, per release and per device class.

Data stays where it should

Collectors near the user, storage in the region the customer chose, and nothing on the device that identifies a person.

Boring infrastructure

Stateless collectors, a few well-understood databases, and a status page we are not embarrassed by. Uptime is a feature.

The team

Eleven people across engineering, support and operations, working remotely from several countries in Europe and Central Asia. Most of the engineering team has shipped iOS or Android apps to production, which is why the SDK guides read the way they do. We are not hiring at the moment, but we read every message sent to the address below.
